The police have registered a case against ruling Congress leader V Naveen Yadav for allegedly distributing Voter ID cards in Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency, where a bypoll is scheduled for November 11.

According to police, the case was filed at Madhura Nagar Police Station based on a complaint from an election official. The incident reportedly took place about a month ago, and investigations are ongoing.

BJP Lok Sabha member M Raghunandan Rao had earlier approached the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), alleging that Naveen Yadav distributed Voter ID cards during a programme recently organised in Jubilee Hills.

Raghunandan Rao pointed out that, as per the Election Commission’s rules, only Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are authorised to hand over Voter ID cards, and that too under strict supervision of the Election Commission and local authorities. He urged the CEO to immediately investigate the “illegal” event and identify officials, including police personnel, who may have facilitated it.

The police confirmed that further investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken if any violations of the Representation of the People Act are found. The case adds to the rising political heat in Jubilee Hills ahead of the crucial bypoll.
