In a major step towards improving passenger security, especially the safety of women commuters, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has rolled out an advanced surveillance initiative titled “Busullo Bharosa” in coordination with the police department.

The project has been launched on a pilot basis in Adilabad district , where nearly 175 RTC buses have been fitted with modern CCTV cameras capable of monitoring activities inside the vehicles round the clock.

Officials said the surveillance system has been designed to cover almost every corner of the bus, including the driver’s cabin, women’s reserved seats, footboards and rear seating areas . The cameras are capable of recording passenger movements and onboard activities throughout the journey.

What makes the initiative significant is its direct connectivity with the RTC control room . Apart from drivers and conductors, control room staff can also monitor live visuals from the buses, enabling authorities to quickly identify suspicious activity, habitual offenders or theft attempts.

Transport officials believe the system will also prove crucial in gathering evidence in case of accidents, harassment complaints or other untoward incidents.

The initiative has received a positive response from passengers, particularly women and senior citizens , who often travel alone during late hours or on long-distance routes. Many commuters have welcomed the move, saying the presence of surveillance cameras is likely to act as a deterrent against harassment, misbehaviour and petty crimes inside buses.

Following the launch in Adilabad, the RTC management is reportedly planning to gradually extend the CCTV surveillance network to buses operating in depots across the State.
