
Bus Theft Bid Fails As Youth Gets Caught In Pune
Police have detained a 20-year-old man for allegedly attempting to steal a passenger bus and driving it on the wrong side of the road , causing panic among commuters, officials said on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Saturday near the Deccan bus stand . The bus belongs to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).
According to police, the accused, identified as Gopal Balramsingh Rana , is a bus driver employed with a private company. Prima facie investigations suggest that he drove away with the PMPML bus from Dengle Bridge and continued on the wrong side until Goodluck Chowk .
Although there were no passengers on board , the incident triggered alarm among bystanders. Several people attempted to stop the vehicle, while some managed to pull the accused out of the driver’s seat , bringing the situation under control.
No injuries or casualties were reported, police said.
Officials added that they are investigating whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol . A case has been registered by the Shivajinagar police , and further investigation is underway.
