The Budget session of Parliament is likely to commence on January 28, 2026 , with the Union Budget scheduled for February 1 , according to officials citing the tentative schedule finalised by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.

President Droupadi Murmu is expected to address a joint sitting of both Houses on the first day of the session, Jan 28 , outlining the government’s legislative and policy priorities for the year. Following this, MPs will debate the Motion of Thanks , setting the stage for discussions on key policy initiatives.

Parliament will not meet on Jan 29 due to the Beating Retreat ceremony , and will sit on Jan 30 for the likely tabling of the Economic Survey , which reviews the country’s economic performance and provides recommendations for growth and fiscal management. The Houses will remain adjourned on Jan 31 .

The Union Budget , which presents the government’s revenue and expenditure plans, will be tabled on Feb 1 (Sunday) . After discussions on the Budget and President’s address, Parliament will go on a month-long recess from Feb 13 to Mar 9 , allowing department-related standing committees to scrutinise ministry demands for grants and suggest modifications.

The session is expected to conclude on April 2 , ahead of Good Friday on April 3 , ensuring sufficient time for legislative business. The Budget session plays a key role in shaping the government’s financial planning, policy priorities, and legislative agenda for the year, balancing ceremonial events, parliamentary debates, and committee reviews.
