BRS Vs Congress; who’s responsible for Kamareddy floods?

The recent flooding in Kamareddy district has sparked a political tussle, with Congress MLA Madhan Mohan Rao and BRS leader T. Harish Rao trading sharp accusations over the handling of relief efforts.

Madhan Mohan Rao blamed the BRS government for the floods, saying that the previous administration had neglected small projects, including irrigation initiatives in villages, which contributed to the disaster. Speaking to ANI, he said, “Because of the BRS government, today, we face all the flooding. Small irrigation projects in villages were often neglected, and they never received the necessary support. All of them were discharged, all of them were disconnected. Due to the disconnection, everything came into the Pocharam, and the flooding happened.”

The Congress MLA also criticised the BRS for failing to provide the promised financial assistance of ₹10,000 per acre to farmers whose crops were damaged. He highlighted that his government had taken immediate action, restoring electricity and roads and providing temporary relief to affected communities.

“Four years ago, in my Lingampet and Gandhari Mandals, rice crops were completely damaged due to similar flooding. At that time, the collector had promised ₹10,000 to each farmer per acre, but the previous government did not provide a single paisa. Today, we have acted quickly to provide temporary relief, restore essential services, and are now working to compensate farmers for the losses,” Mohan said.

Meanwhile, senior BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao accused the Telangana government of failing to act promptly in providing relief to flood-affected families. During his visit to Nagireddypet in Yellareddy constituency, Harish Rao said that despite Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s personal visit to the district last month, none of the promised assistance had reached those in need.

“In Kamareddy district, crops over thousands of acres have been damaged, hundreds of houses have collapsed, and there has been a loss of life and property. A month has passed since the CM’s visit, yet not even a single rupee of assistance has been provided,” Harish Rao told reporters.

He added that several promises made during the CM’s visit had not been fulfilled. “The Chief Minister said he would hold a meeting in Hyderabad within 15 days, review the situation, and ensure that all work proceeds with maximum urgency and full readiness. But nothing has happened. The District In-charge Minister Seethakka has not visited the flood-affected areas, bridges remain unrepaired, no financial assistance has been given to farmers, and families whose houses collapsed have received nothing,” Harish Rao said.

The BRS leader demanded the immediate release of compensation for farmers and families who lost their homes. He also called for urgent restoration of damaged infrastructure in the district to prevent further hardship.

The situation in Kamareddy has highlighted the ongoing challenges in disaster management and relief distribution in Telangana, with political leaders pointing fingers at each other while affected residents await urgent support.
