BRS to Launch Week-Long Statewide Protest Campaign from September 2

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is gearing up for a week-long statewide protest campaign from September 2, targeting the Congress government over what it describes as the failure to fulfil promises made to the people.

Party Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) outlined the programme during a teleconference with senior leaders, public representatives, former representatives and members of the state executive. He asked party cadres to take the Congress government’s promises, its alleged failures and the issues still affecting people directly to households across Telangana.

The campaign will begin on September 1, with the BRS set to release a chargesheet on the Congress government’s alleged failures at Telangana Bhavan. A series of constituency- and district-level programmes will follow over the next several days.

On September 2, the party will organise dharnas at constituency headquarters, focusing on the implementation of the Congress party’s six guarantees. BRS leaders will also campaign around what they call “420 promises”, put up large displays and distribute cards listing assurances they claim are still pending.

Farmers’ conventions will be held on September 3, focusing on concerns related to agriculture, irrigation, power supply, urea availability and crop insurance. In Hyderabad and other urban areas, the party will also raise the issue of lands included in the 22-A prohibited properties list.

The following day, September 4, will focus on women and persons with disabilities. The BRS plans meetings and protests over promises concerning ₹2,500 monthly assistance for women and schemes including KCR Kit, Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak, besides the promised tola of gold. Cooking protests may also be organised in some areas.

Students and youth will be the focus on September 5, with rallies and meetings planned around fee reimbursement, the job calendar, the Youth Declaration and employment opportunities. Separate protest meetings are planned in Adilabad and the Singareni region.

On September 6, the BRS will organise a major auto rally in Hyderabad, highlighting civic concerns such as drinking water, streetlights, traffic, law and order and the functioning of Basti Dawakhanas. Rural programmes will focus on sanitation and other local issues.

Party workers will submit memoranda at district- and mandal-level Praja Vani centres on September 7. The campaign will conclude with press conferences at district headquarters on September 8, where leaders will present their assessment of public response and the Congress government’s performance. Floral tributes will also be paid to Dr B. R. Ambedkar statues.

The BRS will additionally extend support to protests planned by teachers’ and employees’ unions on September 10.
