BRS Stages Mock Assembly at Telangana Bhavan Over Suspensions

BRS legislators on Saturday staged a mock Assembly at Telangana Bhavan in protest against their suspension from the ongoing Assembly session, turning the exercise into a sharp political attack on the Congress government.

Sanathnagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav took on the role of Chief Minister, while Zaheerabad MLA Manik Rao acted as the Speaker. Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar and Jangaon MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy played the roles of ministers during the mock session.

BRS legislators raised a range of public issues during the programme and displayed placards criticising the state government. The protest was aimed at highlighting what the party described as the government's attempt to silence the Opposition inside the Assembly.

Former minister and MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy alleged that the recent incident involving BRS legislators outside the Assembly had deeply hurt the party. She accused the Revanth Reddy government of failing to deliver what she called genuine people-centric governance and alleged that an atmosphere of fear was prevailing in the state.

Sabitha also raised concerns over crime and women's safety, claiming that missing-person cases and crimes against women were increasing. Referring to NCRB data, she alleged that Telangana ranked third in the country in crime rate and first in crimes against women. She also condemned the alleged treatment of BRS women legislators near the Assembly.

MLA Sunitha Laxma Reddy alleged that the government was trying to suppress the Opposition's voice because BRS legislators continued to raise issues concerning the people. She said the suspensions reflected an unwillingness to face questions from the Opposition.

Talasani, playing the Chief Minister in the mock Assembly, used satire to target the Congress government's election promises. Taking a dig at its assurance of implementing guarantees within 100 days, he jokingly questioned whether the government had ever specified which 100 days it had meant. He also made a sarcastic reference to the promise of jobs at Ashoknagar, saying the assurance had been made by Rahul Gandhi rather than himself.

Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, who portrayed the Irrigation Minister, also targeted the government through satire. He remarked that despite having neither preparation nor dedication, he would speak according to the points provided by advisers. His reference to acting on the suggestions of former bureaucrat Adityanath Das drew laughter during the mock session.

Palla further alleged that the government was deliberately ignoring the repair of the Medigadda barrage, claiming that restoring it could give political credit to former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Through the mock Assembly, the BRS sought to turn its suspension into a broader political campaign, using satire and protest to question the Congress government's performance and its handling of Opposition voices.
