BRS backs BC community bandh, demands 42% reservations

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has extended its full support to the BC community bandh scheduled for October 18, aimed at pressing for the implementation of 42% reservations in education and employment for Backward Classes (BCs).

BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, stating that there is no firm commitment from his government to ensure BC reservations. KTR emphasised that the party would continue its struggle for BC rights until all promises, including the BC sub-plan and budget allocations made by the Congress government, are fulfilled. He assured that every effort by BC organisations to secure reservations will receive full backing from the BRS.

KTR highlighted that while the Congress government has provided only 42% reservations for local bodies, it is essential to extend the same 42% to all sectors, including education and employment. He urged the BC community to demand their rightful share across all areas, including contractual employment, stating that proper implementation could benefit lakhs of BC students.

Regarding the BC reservation bill in Parliament, KTR noted that its enactment requires consensus between both the UPA and NDA coalitions. He confirmed that all four BRS Rajya Sabha members would vote in favour if the bill is introduced. Furthermore, KTR promised that if BJP leaders raise the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BRS would openly support the initiative.

In a show of solidarity, BC JAC Chairman M.P.R. Krishnaiah and Jajula Srinivas Goud submitted a memorandum to KTR, former Minister V. Srinivas Goud, Telangana Legislative Assembly Opposition Leader Sirikonda Madhusudana Chari, and former ministers Gangula Kamalakar and Talasani Srinivas Yadav at Telangana Bhavan. KTR reiterated that BRS will provide moral support for the BC bandh planned on October 18, aiming to secure full BC reservations.
