Brazil Police Search Vasco da Gama Player’s Home in Drug and Arms Trafficking Probe

Brazilian police searched the home of Vasco da Gama forward David Corrêa, popularly known as DVD, as part of a major investigation into a criminal organisation suspected of involvement in interstate drug and arms trafficking and money laundering.

The operation, named ‘A Tropa’ or ‘The Troop’, was launched on August 31, 2026, by the Civil Police of Espírito Santo. Authorities said the name referred to the term allegedly used by members of the criminal organisation to identify their group.

The wider operation reportedly involved searches and other police action in Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás and the Federal District. Reports said authorities were executing 15 search-and-seizure warrants and four temporary arrest warrants, with around 100 officers involved in the operation.

Corrêa, 30, was among the targets of the investigation. Police searches reportedly took place at his residence as well as at Vasco da Gama’s training centre. The forward left the club’s training ground without commenting publicly on the case.

Another footballer, right-back Hayner Cordeiro, currently with second-division side Vila Nova and linked to Santos, is also under investigation. Reports said searches were carried out at his residence and at his personal locker at Vila Nova’s training facility. Hayner has denied involvement in illegal activities and said he believed his inclusion in the investigation could be connected to a childhood friendship with another person under investigation.

According to Brazilian media reports, the investigation began after police analysed a mobile phone seized during an earlier criminal investigation in 2024. Investigators reportedly examined messages and financial transactions that led them to expand their inquiry into suspected links with the criminal organisation. The details remain part of an ongoing investigation.

Espírito Santo police said the objective of the operation was to gather evidence, clarify suspected crimes and dismantle the criminal structure under investigation.

Vasco da Gama said it was cooperating with authorities, while Vila Nova also said it would follow the investigation and take any necessary action based on the findings of the competent authorities. Vasco officials said Corrêa remained available to continue training and playing while the investigation proceeded.

Corrêa has played 21 matches for Vasco in the current Brazilian league season and scored three goals, including in the club’s 3-1 win over Cruzeiro on Saturday. The investigation is ongoing, and no final determination of criminal responsibility has been announced.
