Boys continue to outperform girls as Assam HSLC results show modest improvement

The Class 10 board examination results declared by the Assam State School Education Board on Friday indicate a slight improvement in overall performance, while continuing a recent trend of boys outperforming girls.

Out of 4,29,249 students who appeared for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations held earlier this year, 65.62 per cent successfully cleared the test. This marks a marginal rise from last year’s pass percentage of 63.98 per cent, suggesting a gradual recovery after a dip in recent years.

Gender-wise data shows that boys recorded a pass percentage of 67.78 per cent, surpassing girls, who registered 63.96 per cent. The trend mirrors last year’s results as well, where boys had also maintained a lead, despite broader national patterns in which girls typically outperform boys in board examinations.

The results, however, remain below the higher success rates seen in earlier years such as 2024, when the pass percentage was significantly stronger. Education observers describe the current figures as moderate, falling within the average range but indicating a positive upward trajectory.

Among individual performers, Jyotirmay Das secured the top rank with 591 marks out of 600, followed by Akankha Bhuyan with 589 marks. The third position was jointly held by Jia Farah Islam and Surjit Akhtar, both scoring 588 marks.

District-wise, Dima Hasao emerged as the best performer with an impressive pass percentage of 88.23, followed by Sivasagar and Dibrugarh.

Congratulating the students, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised successful candidates and encouraged those who fell short to remain determined, expressing confidence that perseverance would lead to future success.
