A 13-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death in the Bhati Mines area of south Delhi, police said on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the locality and triggering protests by residents.

The victim, a Class 9 student, had gone out to play with friends on Tuesday evening but failed to return home. Concerned family members launched a search and later approached the police to file a missing complaint.

During a subsequent search operation, police recovered the boy’s body from a nearby forested area. Preliminary findings indicate that the boy was strangled, though officials said further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the crime.

Sources said that two minors are being questioned in connection with the case. Police have not confirmed their involvement and stated that all angles are being probed.

The incident sparked protests in the area, with the victim’s family and local residents staging a demonstration outside the Sanjay Colony police post. Protesters briefly blocked a road, demanding swift action and justice for the victim.

Police personnel later intervened, pacified the protesters, and brought the situation under control. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is being conducted and that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.

The case has raised concerns over safety in the area, with residents calling for increased vigilance and policing.
