The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has suspended Secretary General Pramod Kumar with immediate effect under its constitutional provisions. The federation announced the decision in an Instagram post on Wednesday, citing Clauses 24(xvi) and 24(xxxvi) of the BFI Constitution.

In its statement, the BFI said it had officially issued an order suspending Kumar from the office of Secretary General with immediate effect by exercising its powers under the specified clauses. However, the federation did not disclose the reasons for the suspension in its announcement.

The development comes shortly after Indian boxing achieved a significant milestone at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, delivering the country's best performance at the continental event in terms of gold medals. Indian boxers secured three gold medals and three bronze medals, highlighting the team's strong showing at the Games.

Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal claimed gold medals, while Kapil Pokhariya, Narender Berwal and Priya Ghanghas won bronze medals.

Lovlina secured gold in the women's 75kg category by defeating China's Ziyi Bao 5-0 in the final. The victory came on her 29th birthday and marked a major achievement for the Olympic bronze medallist, who improved on her silver-medal finish at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. She also became only the second Indian woman, after legendary boxer Mary Kom, to win an Asian Games boxing gold medal.

Parveen delivered another notable performance in the women's 65kg final, defeating Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei, a Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist and former world champion, by a 3-2 decision.

Ankush completed India's gold-medal tally with a 4-0 split-decision victory over South Korea's Kim Min-seong in the men's 80kg final.

While the suspension marks a significant administrative development for the national boxing federation, the BFI's announcement did not indicate any link between the decision and India's performance at the Asian Games.
