Border 2 opens at ₹32.10 crore, sets 2026 benchmark
Border 2 has arrived with a powerful opening punch, recording a net India opening of ₹32.10 crore on its first day. Released on a working day , the patriotic war drama has not only claimed the title of 2026’s biggest Bollywood opener , but has also come very close to matching 2025’s biggest opener, Chhaava , which opened at ₹33.10 crore .
Directed by Anurag Singh , the film honours the heroes of the 1971 war , with Sunny Deol leading the cast as Lt Col. Fateh Singh Kaler . He is joined by Varun Dhawan , Diljit Dosanjh , and Ahan Shetty , creating a strong ensemble that has driven audiences back to theatres.
The film performed exceptionally well in the mass belt regions , where several single-screen theatres reported superb occupancy . The patriotic theme and emotional tribute to soldiers clearly struck a chord with audiences in smaller towns and rural markets. In urban centres, the response was slower at the start but picked up strongly as the day progressed , indicating a steady build in interest and a positive word-of-mouth trend.
Business in parts of North India was impacted by heavy rainfall, which affected footfall in some theatres. Despite this, Border 2 still managed a massive opening, underlining the audience’s enthusiasm for the film. Powered by glowing word of mouth, trade analysts expect the numbers to grow over the weekend, with the Republic Day holiday on Monday likely to deliver the biggest earnings of the extended weekend.
As Border 2 continues its run, the film is already shaping up to be one of the biggest war dramas in recent years, thanks to its emotional connect, strong star cast, and a story that brings the spirit of 1971 back to the big screen.
