Panic briefly gripped the district and sessions court complex in Sriganganagar on Wednesday after a bomb threat letter prompted authorities to evacuate the entire premises and launch a major security operation, officials said.

The threat was later declared a hoax after an extensive inspection by security teams found no explosives or suspicious objects , following which court proceedings resumed .

According to police, the threat was received through a letter sent by post from Kolkata , which reportedly carried an incorrect address . The message triggered an immediate alert among district authorities and security agencies, who initiated precautionary measures to ensure the safety of judges, lawyers, court staff and visitors.

Superintendent of Police Hari Shankar said police acted swiftly after receiving information about a possible bomb attack on the court premises. As a precaution, officials cleared the complex and launched a systematic search operation.

A bomb disposal squad from Bikaner , assisted by a dog squad , conducted an intensive inspection across the entire complex. Courtrooms, judges’ chambers, administrative offices and surrounding areas were carefully checked during the operation.

Officials later confirmed that nothing suspicious was found and the premises were declared safe, allowing normal judicial work to resume.

Police have launched an investigation to trace the sender of the threatening letter. Authorities said the cyber cell and the postal department are assisting in identifying the origin of the message and the person responsible for issuing the false alarm.

The incident briefly put local security agencies on high alert before the situation returned to normal.
