Panic gripped Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Hospital on Wednesday after a caller allegedly threatened to blow up the hospital unless Rs 40 crore was paid, prompting a massive security response and an extensive search operation by police and security agencies.

According to police officials, the threat message was received at the Rajasthan Police Control Room early Wednesday morning. Soon after the alert, multiple police teams, bomb disposal squads and security personnel rushed to the hospital premises and launched a thorough search operation that continued for nearly two to three hours.

Officials said no suspicious object, explosive material or unattended item was found during the operation, and the premises were later declared safe. However, the threat caused anxiety among patients, attendants and hospital staff at the state-run medical facility, one of the largest government hospitals in Rajasthan.

Police said the hospital’s routine operations were monitored closely during the search, while security checks were intensified across sensitive areas within the premises.

With the help of cyber surveillance teams, investigators traced the phone call to Haryana. Jaipur Police then coordinated with Haryana Police, following which the accused caller was detained for questioning.

An official said the suspect is being brought to Jaipur for further interrogation and legal action. Police are also trying to ascertain the motive behind the threat and whether the accused acted alone or had links to a larger extortion or cyber-crime network.

Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the detained person so far. Further investigation is underway, police added.
