Bomb Scare at JNTU Hyderabad Ends in Relief After Thorough Checks
A routine day at the Kukatpally campus of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU-H) was abruptly disrupted after a threatening email warned of bombs planted inside the university, setting off alarm across one of the city’s busiest academic institutions.
The message, received on Tuesday morning, prompted immediate action from university authorities, who alerted the police without delay. Within minutes, multiple teams, including bomb disposal units, sniffer dog squads, and local police , were deployed across the campus. Academic blocks, administrative sections, and hostel areas were thoroughly searched in a high-alert operation.
As a precaution, students and staff were moved to safer locations , while security teams worked to secure and clear the premises. The extensive search operation, however, found no suspicious objects, leading officials to declare the threat a hoax . Regular activities resumed later, though the incident left many shaken.
Police have registered a case and launched a cyber investigation to trace the origin of the email. Authorities are also examining whether the threat is linked to similar incidents reported across the city, including a warning sent to an All India Radio facility mentioning possible chemical explosives.
The incident reflects a growing pattern of fake bomb threats targeting key institutions in Hyderabad. In recent months, prominent establishments such as the Telangana High Court, CBI Court, and offices of the India Meteorological Department have received similar hoax messages.
Officials warn that such threats, even when false, place a heavy burden on emergency services, disrupt public life, and highlight the increasing misuse of digital communication to create fear and uncertainty.
