Blood donation camp held for the first time at DGP office

For the first time, a blood donation camp was organized at the Telangana State Police Headquarters to mark Police Martyrs’ Day. Director General of Police B. Shivadher Reddy, IPS, personally donated blood, setting an inspiring example for the force. Following his lead, 164 police personnel, including senior officers such as ADGP (Law & Order) Mahesh M. Bhagwat, IGs S. Chandrasekhar Reddy and M. Ramesh, as well as officials from various departments, actively participated in the drive.

Speaking on the occasion, DGP Shivadher Reddy emphasized the importance of blood donation, saying, “A single unit of blood can save up to three lives. Blood, plasma, and platelets play a vital role in emergency medical care.” He noted that nearly 8,000 people lose their lives every year in road accidents across Telangana, and timely availability of blood could help save many of them. The DGP urged both police personnel and the public to make blood donation a regular part of their lives.

Earlier this week, under the Hyderabad City Police initiative, a massive two-day blood donation drive was held across more than 10 locations, collecting over 4,000 units of blood. The DGP said this effort would significantly strengthen the state’s emergency blood reserves.

“Blood donation is not just a social responsibility,” he added, “it is a sacred duty that helps save precious lives.”
