Blast at illegal firecracker unit in Punjab's Ludhiana leaves one dead, two injured
A powerful explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Punjab’s Ludhiana district claimed the life of a man and left two others injured on Tuesday evening, sending shockwaves through the surrounding village and triggering panic among residents.
The blast occurred at around 7:30 pm in Jodhan village , where, according to police, firecrackers were allegedly being manufactured illegally inside a residential building.
Officials identified the deceased as Kaif Shah , who died in the explosion. Two others, including a 16 year old girl named Alisha , sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Varinder Singh Khosa said preliminary investigations indicate that the building was being used for illegal firecracker production , a dangerous activity often linked to unsafe storage of explosive materials.
Residents reported hearing a loud explosion that echoed across the village , prompting many to rush out of their homes in fear. Initial reports suggest that the blast may have been triggered by a gas cylinder explosion inside the building , though officials say the exact cause will be confirmed only after a detailed investigation.
The force of the blast was so intense that the roof of the building reportedly collapsed , trapping people inside and worsening the damage.
Upon receiving information, police teams, fire brigade personnel and ambulances rushed to the spot , carrying out rescue operations and shifting the injured to hospital.
Authorities have begun a full investigation into the incident , including the illegal operation of the firecracker unit and possible violations of safety regulations.
Such incidents have repeatedly raised concerns about the danger posed by unregulated firecracker manufacturing , especially in residential areas where safety standards are often ignored.
Police said further action will be taken after the investigation establishes responsibility for the illegal activity.
