BJP’s Ramchander Rao Targets INDIA Alliance Over ‘Minority Vote-Bank’ Strategy
Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday accused the Congress-led INDIA alliance of pursuing vote-bank politics and attempting to consolidate support from the Muslim community for electoral gains.
Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Rao alleged that several leaders from parties within the opposition bloc were making statements aimed at appealing to minority voters while simultaneously criticising Sanatana Dharma and traditional Indian cultural values. According to him, such political messaging reflects a deliberate strategy to mobilise votes along religious lines.
The BJP leader referred to remarks reportedly made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during a public meeting held in connection with the Jubilee Hills by-election . Rao claimed that the Chief Minister had said that “Muslims mean Congress and Congress means Muslims,” which he described as an example of the Congress party’s reliance on identity-based political mobilisation.
Rao also pointed to comments made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin , a prominent leader in the INDIA alliance, who recently reiterated that the DMK would stand with Muslims . According to Rao, such statements demonstrate that parties within the opposition alliance are openly positioning themselves to secure minority votes through religious appeals.
Criticising what he described as selective politics, the BJP leader said targeting or criticising Sanatana Dharma , followed by attempts to court minority communities, does not promote social harmony in a diverse country like India. He urged members of the Muslim community to assess whether they were being treated as partners in development or merely as a political vote bank during elections.
Highlighting the BJP’s approach to governance, Rao said the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working with the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” , focusing on development for all sections of society irrespective of religion.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin attended an Iftar gathering in Chennai organised by the DMK’s minority wing as part of the Ramzan observances . Extending greetings to the Muslim community, Stalin said the DMK has maintained a longstanding relationship with Muslims since the time of party founder C.N. Annadurai .
Stalin noted that the bond between the DMK and the Muslim community has continued across generations and remains an important part of the party’s political and social outreach. His remarks, alongside the BJP’s criticism, have once again triggered debate in political circles over the role of religion and vote-bank politics in the country’s electoral landscape.
