BJP’s PVN Madhav Accuses Jagan of Joining SJPI for Political Gains

Andhra Pradesh BJP president PVN Madhav has accused former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of joining hands with the SJPI for political gains, alleging that the move contradicts the party’s stated commitment to fighting corruption and protecting democracy. He questioned the party’s association with Jagan, who faces cases linked to corruption allegations involving the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Madhav alleged that several incidents involving religious institutions occurred during the previous YSRCP government, including temple vandalism, the burning of temple chariots, the destruction of idols and encroachments on temple properties. He also accused the former government of encouraging religious conversions and criticised its management of the state’s finances, claiming that Andhra Pradesh’s economy had been left in a difficult position.

The BJP leader further alleged that Jagan was aligning with forces he described as divisive to advance his political interests. He maintained that people had not forgotten the challenges faced by opposition parties during the YSRCP’s tenure, particularly concerns over political freedom, opposition rights and the treatment of citizens.

Commenting on protests and the subsequent police response, Madhav said peaceful demonstrations were an essential democratic right. However, he stressed that violence, stone-pelting, attacks on police personnel and inappropriate behaviour towards women had no place in a democratic society.

He also criticised Jagan for allegedly portraying police action in a way that served political interests. According to Madhav, a former chief minister should not distort the actions of law enforcement personnel who are responsible for maintaining law and order.

Madhav questioned how a party that claims to oppose corruption could cooperate politically with a leader facing corruption-related cases. He argued that the association between the SJPI and Jagan exposed a gap between the party’s public statements and its political actions.

Concluding his remarks, the Andhra Pradesh BJP president said the public was closely observing the latest political developments. He expressed confidence that voters would respond through democratic processes when the appropriate time came, adding that political parties would ultimately be judged by the people for their positions and actions.
