BJP’s K. Laxman Slams Congress Over Farmers’ Power and Irrigation Issues
BJP Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman has criticised the Telangana government for participating in protests in Delhi while farmers in the state continue to struggle with electricity supply and irrigation problems. He accused the Congress leadership of prioritising the Nehru-Gandhi family over public welfare and alleged that the government had failed to honour its electoral promises.
Speaking on Tuesday, Laxman said the Chief Minister and state ministers had been attending protests in Delhi for the past three days. He questioned why the government was focusing on demonstrations in the national capital when farmers were facing difficulties at home. According to him, power supply and water-related concerns required urgent attention, and the state leadership should concentrate on resolving these issues rather than participating in protests.
Laxman alleged that the Congress leadership was giving greater importance to the Nehru-Gandhi family than to the problems affecting ordinary citizens. He said the BJP’s objective was to serve people across the country, irrespective of political affiliations. He described public service, rather than electoral gains or vote-bank considerations, as a central principle guiding his party’s activities.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public life, Laxman praised his long political career and commitment to national service. He recalled that Modi had served four terms as Gujarat Chief Minister before becoming Prime Minister, a position he subsequently secured for a third time.
Laxman said Modi had dedicated his life to serving the country and viewed public office as a responsibility towards citizens rather than merely a position of authority. He cited the Prime Minister’s description of himself as “Pradhan Sevak”, or chief servant of the people, as an inspiration for BJP leaders and workers. He added that party members had been participating in public service programmes over the past month.
Recalling the COVID-19 pandemic, Laxman said BJP workers had continued their service activities despite the risks. He also highlighted the vaccination campaign conducted under Modi’s leadership, stating that free vaccine doses were provided to India’s population during the pandemic.
