BJP to Hold ‘Save Democracy’ Padayatra in Telangana on November 2, Amit Shah to Attend
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will organise a march in Telangana on November 2 to counter what it describes as misleading claims by the Congress over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would participate in the programme, which will be held under the slogan ‘Loktantra Bachao – Arajakatha Hatao’ (Save Democracy – Remove Anarchy).
The march will follow a Congress rally against alleged vote theft at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1. Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Ramchander Rao accused the Congress of creating political unrest and spreading misinformation about electoral roll revisions.
He also criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the opposition party was unable to accept Modi's rise to the country's top executive position. He called on BJP workers to burn Congress effigies at district headquarters across Telangana in protest.
On the SIR issue, Ramchander Rao challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to substantiate claims that voters' names were being removed unfairly. He said he was prepared to visit the Chief Minister's native village, Kondareddypalli, to examine the allegations. He maintained that genuine voters whose names had been deleted could apply for re-enrolment.
Responding to opposition claims that 13 crore names had been removed nationwide, he attributed the deletions to deceased voters, migrants, unavailable individuals and duplicate registrations. He cited figures of 2.8 crore deceased voters, three crore unavailable people, 6.3 crore permanent migrants and nearly one crore duplicate registrations. He demanded that Congress ministers identify at least 10 affected voters and explain the reasons for their deletion.
Ramchander Rao also accused the state government of neglecting water shortages while Congress leaders prepared to attend the Delhi rally. He claimed that around 300 of Telangana's more than 600 mandals were facing drought conditions and that Hyderabad was recording approximately 8,000 water tanker bookings daily. He urged the Chief Minister to prioritise public needs.
Separately, at a meeting at the BJP headquarters in Nampally, he urged Yuva Morcha workers to ensure eligible graduates register for upcoming Graduate MLC elections. He accused the Congress and BRS of failing Telangana's youth and projected the BJP as an alternative capable of addressing their aspirations.
