BJP suspends Kashinath Chaudhary’s induction amid backlash over 2020 Palghar Sadhu Lynching

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Maharashtra unit suspended Kashinath Chaudhary’s membership less than 24 hours after he was inducted into the party in Dahanu, Palghar district. This decision came in the wake of widespread criticism on social media, which linked him to the 2020 Palghar sadhu lynching case.

Chaudhary, a former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) member, had joined BJP as part of the party’s pre-election strategy, ahead of upcoming municipal elections in the region. However, the induction sparked immediate backlash. While Chaudhary was summoned as a witness in the case, he was not officially an accused. Nevertheless, public sentiment deemed his induction inappropriate given the sensitive nature of the case.

In response, BJP leaders quickly suspended Chaudhary’s membership, stating that the move was necessary to address public concerns and underscore the party’s sensitivity to the incident. Analysts note that the swift action reflects the BJP’s awareness of electoral implications, as the controversy could have affected voter perception in the municipal elections, particularly among communities closely following the 2020 lynching case.
