BJP suspends Former Union Minister RK Singh for ‘Anti-party’ activities after Bihar poll victory

A day after the NDA’s resounding victory in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, former Union Minister and ex-Arrah MP RK Singh was suspended by the BJP for alleged “anti-party activities,” and his resignation was subsequently sent to the party by him on Saturday. A week had been granted to him to explain why expulsion should not be recommended, but the resignation was submitted before the deadline.

Public criticism of the party’s internal functioning had been voiced by Singh in recent months, and remarks targeting Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and JD(U) leader Anant Singh had been issued by him. Concerns regarding the Election Commission’s handling of law and order during the polls had also been raised.

According to the suspension notice, serious indiscipline was believed to have been committed by him, and damage to the organisation’s reputation was said to have been caused. Along with Singh, MLC Ashok Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal were also suspended for similar reasons.

The party letter stated, “Your activities were categorised as anti-party and indisciplined behaviour. The organisation has taken this matter seriously, and a show-cause notice has been issued asking why expulsion should not be considered.”

The step was interpreted as the first major disciplinary action taken by the BJP after the Bihar results, signalling that internal coherence and discipline were being prioritised.

Earlier this month, allegations of a ₹62,000-crore corruption scandal linked to a power project had been levelled by Singh against the state government, and related documents had been posted by him on his official X handle.

Demands for strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct had repeatedly been made by him, and the situation had been described as a “failure” on the part of both the Election Commission and the district administration. The movement of large armed convoys during the poll period had been condemned, and it had been termed a blatant violation of democratic norms.

“Strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct must be ensured by the Election Commission. A failure of both the poll body and the district administration has been witnessed,” it had been stated by him.

He further said, “A mockery of the democratic process is created by the presence of armed convoys… Strict action must be taken against influential candidates and officials involved.”

Singh, a two-time MP from Arrah and former Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and Renewable Energy, had lost his seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

His departure from the BJP has now been formalised through the submission of his resignation.
