BJP MP Eatala Rajender Demands Permanent Relocation of Jawaharnagar Dumping Yard
BJP MP Eatala Rajender has demanded the permanent relocation of the Jawaharnagar dumping yard in Medchal–Malkajgiri district, alleging that pollution from the facility is seriously affecting public health, the environment and local livelihoods. He announced a roundtable meeting on October 25 and a massive march on October 27 to mobilise residents, warning that a Sakala Janula Samme could be launched if the government failed to act.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting at Sai Bhavani Function Hall in Dammaiguda, along with BJP Legislative Party leader Mahesh Reddy, Rajender said people living within a 30-km radius of the dumping yard were enduring foul odour and contaminated water. He appealed to the media to support the campaign.
Rajender alleged that leachate from the dumping yard was contaminating nearby lakes and causing fish deaths. Residents had also expressed concerns about miscarriages, cancer and respiratory illnesses. He warned that methane emissions and other pollutants were posing environmental risks. Agriculture continued in Keesara, Ghatkesar and Dammaiguda, but pollution was affecting local livelihoods, he said, urging the government not to neglect the problems faced by economically weaker communities.
Questioning the government's response, Rajender criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for allegedly failing to address the issue. He said he had raised the matter in Parliament and met Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who advised the state government to submit an official report. Despite meeting the Chief Minister, he claimed, no meaningful progress had been made.
Rajender called for modern technology to control foul odour and leachate and urged the government to examine a solution identified by IAS officer Narahari. He said the government should prioritise a permanent solution over cost considerations.
He also criticised demolitions of poor people's homes in the name of HYDRA, while clarifying that the BJP supported cleaning the Musi river but opposed displacing poor families in the name of development.
Rajender said the BJP would seek the Centre's assistance if the state failed to act. BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao had extended full support, and party MPs and MLAs would jointly fight for the affected residents. Several senior BJP leaders attended the meeting.
