BJP Eyes 2028 Power Shift, Nabin Rallies Cadre at Telangana Campaign Launch

Nitin Nabin, national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) , launched a strong attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing the administration led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of pursuing appeasement politics , failing to deliver election promises , and presiding over what he described as “commission-based governance.” He was speaking at a BJP “Vijay Sankalp Sammelan” rally held at the MVS Degree College grounds in Mahabubnagar, where he formally began the party’s campaign for the upcoming municipal elections . The visit is seen as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in Telangana’s urban local bodies and build momentum ahead of future Assembly elections .

Nabin alleged that the Congress government has reduced governance to minority vote-bank politics , referring to a past remark attributed to Revanth Reddy linking Congress with Muslim voters. He argued that such politics sidelines the larger Telugu-speaking population and undermines cultural traditions . He further claimed that the state government is strengthening institutions like the Waqf Board in ways that may not serve wider societal interests and accused it of ignoring the concerns of other communities. BJP workers, he said, would take this message to the grassroots and oppose what he termed minority appeasement .

The BJP leader also accused the Congress administration of failing to prevent incidents involving temples and religious sites, saying Sanatana Dharma represents India’s spiritual foundation. He warned that restrictions on Hindu festivals or perceived disrespect toward temples could erode public trust in the government. On welfare, Nabin questioned why the Congress had not fulfilled its election promise of providing ₹2,500 per month to poor women in Telangana, contrasting this with the Union government’s efforts to support women’s self-help groups and promote financial empowerment initiatives.

Continuing his criticism, Nabin said there was little difference between the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government and the current Congress regime, alleging that “commission raj” and middlemen-driven systems still influence decisions and development works. He claimed that promises made to farmers , SC, ST, and OBC communities had not been implemented and said schemes such as Rythu Bharosa and Ambedkar Abhaya Hastam remained unfulfilled. He contrasted this with central government initiatives and budgetary allocations for infrastructure and rail development, arguing that the Union government remains committed to Telangana’s growth.

Nabin reminded party workers that the BJP secured a significant vote share in Telangana in the last parliamentary elections and urged them to work toward increasing support at every polling booth. He framed the municipal elections as a stepping stone for larger political gains and called on cadres to aim for bringing the BJP to power in the 2028 Assembly elections . Other leaders present at the event, including Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, MP D.K. Aruna, and Rajya Sabha member K. Laxman, also criticised both Congress and BRS, describing them as similar in governance style and urging voters to support the BJP in the upcoming local body polls. Party leaders expressed confidence that Nitin Nabin’s state tour would energize the cadre and strengthen the BJP’s prospects in Telangana’s municipal elections.
