Andhra Pradesh’s capital Amaravati is set to host another prestigious higher education institution, with Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani announcing plans to establish a new ‘AI Plus’ campus in the city.

The institute plans to invest nearly ₹1,000 crore in the project over the next five years. Representatives of BITS Pilani met Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh on Friday to discuss the campus proposal, including infrastructure development and implementation plans.

The campus will be developed in two phases and is designed to accommodate around 7,000 students . It will focus on advanced and emerging technologies, offering programmes in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Computational Linguistics, and Cyber-Physical Systems .

A specialised curriculum is being planned to demonstrate the application of technology in key sectors including agriculture, climate change, and healthcare , preparing students for future challenges.

The campus will also incorporate eco-friendly infrastructure , including green buildings and renewable energy systems, reflecting a strong emphasis on sustainability.

Minister Nara Lokesh said the project would strengthen the state’s education ecosystem and create global-level learning opportunities for students in Andhra Pradesh. He directed officials to ensure quick approvals and full government support to facilitate timely completion of the project.
