BITS Pilani, Axis Bank Partner For ₹100 Crore Innovation Park In Hyderabad

In a significant push to strengthen India’s deep-tech and translational research ecosystem , the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani and Axis Bank have signed an agreement to establish a ₹100 crore Industry Research, Technology and Innovation Park at BITS Pilani’s Hyderabad campus.

The proposed facility, backed by a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) grant of ₹100 crore , is aimed at creating a dedicated platform for advancing innovation, research, and entrepreneurship in high-impact sectors, particularly life sciences, biopharmaceuticals, healthcare, and medical devices.

According to the agreement, the Innovation Park will be developed as a collaborative ecosystem where academia and industry can jointly work on cutting-edge research and develop scalable solutions for real-world challenges. The initiative is also expected to strengthen India’s position in emerging technology-driven healthcare and biotech innovation .

Speaking on the collaboration, BITS Pilani Chancellor Kumar Mangalam Birla said the partnership represents the kind of forward-looking model required to build stronger innovation systems in the country. He noted that the Research Park will help the institute deepen its focus on advanced research and entrepreneurship , while also enabling solutions that can deliver meaningful societal impact.

Under the arrangement, BITS Pilani will oversee the governance structure and research direction of the Innovation Park, ensuring alignment with academic excellence and innovation priorities. Meanwhile, Axis Bank will support infrastructure development and enable ecosystem creation through its CSR initiative.

Axis Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Chaudhry said the collaboration reflects the institution’s commitment to building ecosystems that combine knowledge, innovation, and purpose. He added that both organisations share a common vision of nurturing responsible and future-ready leaders capable of addressing complex global challenges.

The Innovation Park at Hyderabad is expected to act as a catalyst for industry-academia collaboration , encouraging startups, researchers, and innovators to work together under one platform. It is also seen as a step towards enhancing India’s capabilities in high-value research, product development, and technology commercialisation .

Once operational, the facility is expected to significantly contribute to the growth of India’s innovation landscape, particularly in sectors that directly impact healthcare outcomes and technological advancement.
