BioAsia 2026 opens in Hyderabad, Telangana Eyes $25 Billion Investments, 5 Lakh Jobs
The 23rd edition of BioAsia 2026 , Telangana’s flagship international life sciences summit, commenced at HITEX, Hyderabad, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurating the event alongside IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu . Addressing global pharmaceutical leaders, researchers, and investors, the Chief Minister urged stakeholders to partner with Telangana in transforming Hyderabad into a leading global destination for biopharma and life sciences innovation. He assured that the government, regulators, research institutions, and the state’s skilled workforce would actively support investors and innovators.
Revanth Reddy noted that Telangana is now competing with top global life sciences clusters such as Boston, Basel, and Singapore. He emphasized Hyderabad’s rapid rise as a hub for Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and invited companies to establish innovation and R&D hubs focused on drug discovery, biologics, clinical analytics, AI-driven platforms, and digital manufacturing.
Highlighting Hyderabad’s transformation, the Chief Minister said the city has evolved from its identity rooted in heritage, cuisine, and IT into the “Vaccine Capital of the World,” producing a significant share of global vaccines. He stressed that the next goal is to become the global life sciences capital , encompassing pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medtech, and advanced therapeutics.
Under the Telangana Rising 2047 vision, the state aims to become a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and expand to $3 trillion by 2047 , with life sciences serving as a key growth engine. Over the past two years, the sector has attracted investments exceeding ₹73,000 crore , reflecting strong investor confidence. Strategic initiatives such as the expansion of Genome Valley, one of India’s largest life sciences clusters—the development of Hyderabad Pharma City (Green Pharma City) , and the One Bio Telangana policy framework aim to create an integrated ecosystem spanning research, manufacturing, and innovation.
BioAsia has grown into one of Asia’s premier life sciences forums, fostering partnerships, technology transfer, and policy dialogue. This year’s summit has drawn 500 companies and over 4,000 delegates from across the world. During the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister presented the Genome Valley Excellence Award 2026 to University of Pennsylvania professor Bruce L. Levine , a pioneer in cell and gene therapy.
Industries Minister Sridhar Babu stated that Telangana aims to rank among the top three global life sciences clusters by the end of this decade. The state plans to attract approximately $25 billion in investments while generating up to 500,000 high-value jobs across research, manufacturing, and advanced therapeutics.
To build a future-ready workforce, the government has launched Young India Skills University and strengthened training through the Telangana School of Life Sciences , focusing on cutting-edge domains such as mRNA technology, gene therapy, precision medicine, and artificial intelligence-driven drug development. These initiatives aim to bridge the talent gap and ensure industry-ready professionals.
Overall, BioAsia 2026 underscores Telangana’s ambition to position itself as a global life sciences powerhouse. With strong infrastructure, investor-friendly policies, expanding research capabilities, and a deep talent pool, Hyderabad is poised to play a defining role in the future of global biopharma innovation.
