
Bihar Diwas: A celebration of Heritage, Hope and a Transforming state
Bihar Diwas was celebrated across Bihar on Sunday, with political leaders from across the spectrum extending greetings and praising the state’s rich cultural heritage and ongoing development efforts .
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the people of Bihar, stating that the state has enriched India’s heritage with its “ grandeur and divinity ” and is steadily scripting new chapters of progress . He expressed confidence that the dedication and energy of Bihar’s people would play a key role in achieving the vision of a developed state alongside a developed nation .
President Droupadi Murmu also greeted citizens, acknowledging Bihar’s historical importance and contributions to India’s civilisation . She extended her wishes for the state’s continued prosperity .
Union Home Minister Amit Shah lauded Bihar’s role in shaping the country’s political and cultural landscape and wished for its rapid development .
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar greeted residents and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive growth , infrastructure expansion , and social welfare initiatives .
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also extended his wishes, urging people to work collectively towards progress, equality, and employment generation .
Bihar Diwas commemorates March 22, 1912 , when the British administration carved out Bihar as a separate province from the Bengal Presidency. Prior to this, the region was part of the larger Bengal Presidency under colonial rule.
The creation of Bihar marked a significant administrative reorganisation , recognising the region’s distinct cultural and historical identity . Over the years, Bihar has been a cradle of ancient Indian civilisation and a key contributor to India’s freedom movement .
Today, Bihar Diwas is observed with cultural programmes, exhibitions, and public events celebrating the state’s legacy while emphasising its aspirations for growth and development.
