Bihar CM Renames 1 Anne Marg as Lok Sewak Awas, Expands Official Residence Complex
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has renamed his official residence at 1, Anne Marg as ‘Lok Sewak Awas’, or house of a servant of the people, in a move combining symbolism with a broader administrative overhaul. The decision takes immediate effect and signals the tone of the new government led by the state’s first BJP chief minister.
The residence, long seen as the power centre of Bihar politics , was vacated recently by former chief minister Nitish Kumar after nearly two decades. The renaming underscores a shift in political messaging, with the new administration projecting a “public servant” governance model rooted in accessibility and accountability.
Beyond symbolism, the government has expanded the official residence complex by merging 1, Anne Marg with adjacent properties, including 5, Deshratna Marg, creating a nearly 10-acre campus. The upgraded site is being developed into a multi-functional governance hub , integrating residence, offices, and public-facing facilities. Plans include a health centre and sports complex , landscaped gardens, and improved infrastructure.
Officials say the expansion will enhance security and administrative coordination , effectively turning the residence into a mini secretariat-style ecosystem. Choudhary has not yet shifted and continues to operate from an adjoining bungalow, with relocation expected after renovations.
The move mirrors similar efforts such as Praja Bhavan in Telangana, reflecting people-centric governance messaging .
The address itself is named after Madhav Shri Hari Anney, Bihar’s second governor after Independence.
