The process for forming a new government in Bihar is set to begin after April 13 , following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s election to the Rajya Sabha, senior JD(U) leader Sanjay Kumar Jha said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters in Patna after meeting Nitish Kumar at his residence, Sanjay Kumar Jha, the JD(U) national working president, indicated that the political transition is now underway and discussions are moving toward a formal change in leadership.

“I think it will roll out after April 13,” Jha said, while adding that detailed steps would become clearer once the state-level process advances.

The development comes amid expectations that Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) supremo and current Chief Minister, will make way for a new government likely to be led by the BJP within the NDA framework.

Among those present at the Chief Minister’s residence were Samrat Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, who is being viewed as a strong contender for the top post , and senior JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, who also serves as the minister for parliamentary affairs.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said that the new Chief Minister will be chosen by NDA legislators on the recommendation of the BJP, underlining the party’s key role in the decision-making process . He added that once the BJP finalises its plan, the necessary steps will follow.

Political circles in Bihar have been closely watching the developments, with BJP leaders reportedly optimistic about leading the state government for the first time. However, they also acknowledge that the final decision rests with the central leadership in Delhi .

Adding a political jibe, actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha, now with the Trinamool Congress, recently warned about centralised decision making in the BJP, referring to past instances where unexpected names were chosen for top posts .

As Bihar moves toward a possible leadership change, all eyes are now on the NDA’s next move after April 13, which is expected to define the state’s next political chapter .
