Big Relief Amid Monsoon Crisis: Centre Clears Rs 2,117 Crore for Seven Flood-Affected States

In a major relief measure for states grappling with the ongoing monsoon floods, the Central government has approved the advance release of Rs 2,117.85 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to seven flood-affected states, enabling them to strengthen rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The assistance covers Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Nagaland, with the Centre expediting fund disbursal to ensure that state governments have adequate resources to respond to the evolving flood situation.

According to an official statement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved the advance release of the second instalment of the Central share of SDRF for Himachal Pradesh and Odisha, which had already received their first instalments for the financial year 2026-27. Himachal Pradesh has been allocated Rs 193.95 crore, while Odisha will receive Rs 500 crore.

To meet the urgent requirements arising from widespread flooding, the Centre also relaxed documentary requirements under existing guidelines to facilitate the advance release of the first instalment to four other states. Under this decision, Arunachal Pradesh has been sanctioned Rs 44.55 crore, Assam Rs 379.35 crore, Gujarat Rs 500 crore, and Maharashtra Rs 500 crore.

The government said the total allocation of Rs 2,117.85 crore will help the affected states intensify ongoing relief operations, provide immediate assistance to affected communities and strengthen disaster response mechanisms during the peak monsoon season.

Meanwhile, the Centre has also stepped up damage assessment efforts. Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have already visited Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, with two assessment visits conducted in Assam due to the severity of the floods. An IMCT is also being constituted for Nagaland following a request from the state government.

The Centre said it has been closely monitoring the flood situation since the onset of the monsoon in coordination with state governments and reaffirmed its commitment to extending all necessary support for effective relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
