Big Blow For CSK As Ayush Mhatre Ruled Out Of IPL 2026 After Hamstring Injury Setback
Chennai Super Kings have suffered a significant setback in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season after promising young batter Ayush Mhatre was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring injury .
The franchise confirmed that the 18 year old sustained a left hamstring injury during CSK’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. The injury occurred while Mhatre was batting, when he appeared to struggle during a quick run and was later seen in visible discomfort . Despite continuing briefly after on field treatment, he could not recover fully and was dismissed soon after.
CSK stated on social media that the youngster will require a rehabilitation period of six to twelve weeks , effectively ruling him out of the rest of the season.
“It looks pretty bad, unfortunately. And he is going to be a big, big loss because he has been in really nice touch for us,” said CSK batting coach Mike Hussey after the match.
Mhatre had emerged as one of CSK’s brightest performers this season, scoring 201 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of 177.87 , providing much needed firepower at the top.
His absence comes at a difficult time for CSK, who have endured a shaky start to their campaign. The five time champions have lost four of their six matches and currently find themselves struggling in the lower half of the points table.
With a key young performer now sidelined, CSK will need to quickly reassess their batting combination as the tournament moves into a crucial phase.
