Chennai Super Kings have suffered a significant setback in the ongoing IPL season with pacer Khaleel Ahmed ruled out due to a quadriceps (thigh muscles which link to the hip) injury , dealing a blow to their bowling attack at a crucial stage of the tournament.

Ahmed, who featured in all five matches played by Chennai Super Kings so far this season, had been one of their more consistent performers in the early phase. However, he experienced pain in his right hip during the previous encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14, which eventually led to medical assessments confirming the extent of the injury.

According to an IPL source, the left arm pacer has sustained a grade 2 tear , with rehabilitation expected to take at least 10 to 12 weeks , effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

The injury comes as a setback not only for CSK but also for the player, who had been looking to cement his place with impactful performances in the tournament. His early exit leaves a gap in CSK’s pace department, which will now need restructuring as the team moves deeper into the competition.

Khaleel Ahmed has represented India in 11 One Day Internationals and 18 T20 Internationals , with his last appearance coming in July 2024. Known for his ability to swing the ball and deliver breakthroughs in the powerplay, he had been seen as a valuable asset in CSK’s bowling lineup this season.

With his campaign cut short, CSK will now have to explore replacement options and rely on their remaining pace resources to maintain balance in the squad during the crucial remaining fixtures.
