BIAL Rolls Out AI-Driven Smart Safety System at Bengaluru Airport

Bangalore International Airport Limited on Tuesday announced the rollout of an integrated Smart Airside Safety System at Kempegowda International Airport, marking a major upgrade in operational safety across critical zones.

The system focuses on Cross Service Roads (CSR) high-risk intersections where aircraft and ground vehicles interact. Traditionally managed through manual or semi-manual inset lighting , these areas depended heavily on human intervention, often leading to delays and limited visibility.

The newly deployed solution leverages AI-based computer vision, real-time situational intelligence, and intelligent automation . AI-enabled cameras continuously monitor vehicle movement, detect potential right-of-way conflicts, flag non-compliance, and confirm zone clearance in real time. Based on these inputs, the system automatically activates inset lights to prioritise aircraft movement and restores normal signalling once the path is clear.

A centralised monitoring and analytics platform logs all events, strengthening compliance, governance, and operational control. According to BIAL, this data-driven framework significantly reduces the risk of human error, particularly during night operations and low-visibility conditions .

For passengers, the benefits are indirect but meaningful.
