Bhogi Bonfires and Kite-Flying Mark Joyous Start to Telangana’s Sankranti

The three-day Sankranti festival in Telangana began grandly on Wednesday with Bhogi celebrations. Across the state, people lit Bhogi bonfires early in the morning and celebrated the festival with joy and enthusiasm. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the three-day festival— Bhogi, Makar Sankranti, and Kanuma —is traditionally observed as a celebration of the harvest season. Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan , Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , BRS leader and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao , along with several other dignitaries, extended Bhogi and Sankranti greetings to the people of the state.

Governor J. Dev Varma stated that the Bhogi and Sankranti festivals symbolize prosperity, renewal, and joy . He highlighted that the Bhogi bonfires —which signify leaving behind the old and welcoming the new, the kite-flying of Sankranti, the Kolattam dance performances , and the dishes prepared from the new harvest—reflect the rich rural culture of Telangana . The Governor added that these festivals fill both villages and towns with excitement and cheer, and expressed his wish that Bhogi and Sankranti bring love, friendship, fraternity, and abundance to everyone.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also extended his Bhogi, Sankranti, and Kanuma greetings to the people of Telangana. He expressed his hope that these festivals bring happiness and prosperity to everyone’s lives. The Chief Minister emphasized that the benefits of government welfare schemes would reach every eligible person. He expressed confidence that Telangana will achieve significant progress in agriculture, industry, manufacturing, and services .

CM Revanth Reddy stated that the government is committed to achieving the goals outlined in the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document . He urged citizens to celebrate the Sankranti festival while preserving Telugu traditions and to observe safety precautions while flying kites.
