Bhatti Vikramarka Announces Model Colony in Velugumatla, Distributes Pattas to 412 Families
The Telangana government has taken a major step toward strengthening housing security for the poor by launching a rehabilitation initiative for displaced families in Velugumatla . Announcing the plan, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the government will develop a fully equipped model housing colony in the area by December 2026. Speaking at a programme held at the district Collectorate, he stated that the initiative aims to fulfil the long-standing dream of home ownership for economically weaker families , while also ensuring access to modern civic amenities and dignified living conditions.
During the event, Bhatti Vikramarka, along with ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao , distributed house site pattas and housing sanction letters to eligible beneficiaries. The government identified 311 landless families , granting them house sites along with homes under the Indiramma housing scheme , while 101 families who already own house plots were issued housing pattas to enable them to construct permanent homes. Officials said the government fulfilled its commitment ahead of the March 15 deadline , handing over the approvals several days earlier after verifying eligible beneficiaries.
Bhatti Vikramarka explained that the government’s plan goes beyond simply constructing houses. Velugumatla will be transformed into a planned residential colony with comprehensive infrastructure , including schools, healthcare facilities, safe drinking water, electricity, roads and other essential services . He assured that the water supply required for house construction will be arranged within a week , and development works will be executed on a priority basis to ensure the colony is ready within the proposed timeline.
The land used for the project forms part of Bhoodan land in Velugumatla , which was originally donated decades ago for public welfare. Over the years, several poor families built temporary shelters on the land, while allegations also emerged about illegal land dealings and exploitation by middlemen . Following administrative action and legal oversight, the government reclaimed the land and initiated a process to identify genuine beneficiaries and provide them legal ownership rights , ensuring that the support reaches deserving families.
The housing initiative is part of the broader Indiramma Housing Scheme , one of the flagship welfare programmes of the Telangana government. According to Bhatti Vikramarka, the state has allocated ₹22,500 crore for the construction of nearly 4.5 lakh houses across Telangana , describing it as a record housing initiative aimed at improving the living conditions of poor families across the state.
The Deputy Chief Minister also criticized leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi , alleging that the previous government failed to address the concerns of Velugumatla’s poor despite being in power for a decade. He said the current administration led by Revanth Reddy is committed to protecting the dignity and housing rights of disadvantaged communities , adding that beneficiaries are expected to move into their new homes and perform housewarming ceremonies by December 9 once the model colony is completed.
