Bhansali Backs Dhanush For Jungle-Set Mythological Epic
In a significant crossover between Bollywood and South Indian cinema, acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is set to produce a grand mythological drama starring Dhanush . The yet-untitled project will be directed by Tamil filmmaker P. S. Mithran, marking his debut in Hindi cinema.
According to sources close to the development, the film is set against a dense jungle backdrop and will draw heavily from mythological themes, promising a visually rich and emotionally layered narrative. The script has reportedly undergone multiple rewrites before being finalized, with the makers aiming to deliver a fresh take within the mythological genre.
Production is expected to commence in early 2027 , with pre-production work likely to begin later this year. For Dhanush, the film is being seen as a bold and transformative addition to his already diverse filmography, as he steps into a character said to be unlike anything he has portrayed before.
Interestingly, Ram Charan was initially in discussions to headline the project. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the actor opted out, paving the way for Dhanush to come on board.
The project also signals Bhansali’s intent to expand his creative horizons. Known for mounting lavish period dramas such as Padmaavat , the filmmaker appears to be exploring new storytelling terrains by backing unique voices and cross-industry collaborations.
With a compelling premise, a strong creative team, and a pan-Indian appeal, the film is already generating considerable buzz, even before cameras begin rolling.
