Bhagat, Kadam lead India’s brilliant run in Australian para meet

India showcased their dominance at the Australian Para Badminton International 2025, topping the medals table with multiple gold and silver medals. Paralympic champion Pramod Bhagat was the star of the show, claiming two gold medals and reinforcing India’s growing strength in para-badminton on the global stage.

Bhagat began his campaign by winning the men’s singles SL3 title, defeating compatriot Manoj Sarkar 21–15, 21–17 in a hard-fought final. Later, he paired with Sukant Kadam to clinch the men’s doubles SL3–SL4 crown, overcoming fellow Indians Umesh Vikram Kumar and Surya Kant Yadav 21–11, 19–21, 21–18.

Bhagat expressed his delight after the wins, saying, “I’m really happy to win two gold medals here in Australia. The match against Manoj was tough; we know each other's game very well, and it’s always challenging to face off. I’m also happy for Manoj winning the silver. It’s wonderful to see Indian players performing strongly internationally.”

Kadam also had a strong showing, winning gold in men’s doubles with Bhagat and taking silver in men’s singles SL4 after a close three-game battle with Surya Kant, finishing 21–23, 21–14, 19–21.

India’s success extended beyond the men’s events. Manasi Joshi secured two gold medals, triumphing in women’s singles SL3 and mixed doubles SL3–SU5 with Ruthick Ragupathi. Ragupathi also partnered with Chirag Baretha to win the men’s doubles SU5 title.

Additional victories included Sivarajan Solaimalai and Sudarshan Muthuswamy taking gold and silver in men’s doubles SH6, Yashodhan Ravankole and Dheeraj Saini claiming men’s doubles SU5 gold, and Sarumathi winning the women’s singles SL4 + SU5 by defeating Australia’s Zashka Gunson.

India’s impressive all-round performance underlines the nation’s rising stature in world para-badminton ahead of the next month’s international circuit events. The team’s success in Victoria reflects not only individual brilliance but also the depth of talent in the country’s para-badminton squad.
