Bengaluru South Counterfeit Currency Racket Busted, Seven Arrested
Police have busted an alleged counterfeit currency printing racket in Bengaluru South district and arrested seven people in connection with the operation, officials said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made on August 31 following a tip-off that fake currency notes were allegedly being printed at a newly constructed house within the limits of Aijur Police Station in Ramanagara Town.
Acting on the information, police conducted a raid at the premises and took seven suspects into custody. The accused have been identified as Santosh (35), Satish (36), Sampath (33), Rajesh (34), Renukaraj (31), Shivaraj (42) and Govindaraj (50).
During the search, police recovered paper bundles linked to counterfeit currency worth approximately ₹5 lakh. The material was reportedly still at the printing stage and had not yet been completed as finished counterfeit notes, according to a senior police officer.
Police also seized chemical substances allegedly used in the production of fake currency notes. Investigators are examining the seized materials to determine the scale of the operation, the intended circulation of the counterfeit notes and the possible involvement of others.
The raid followed preliminary intelligence received by the police regarding suspicious activities at the newly constructed property. Officials are now investigating how the alleged printing operation was established and whether the accused had previously produced or circulated counterfeit currency.
A case has been registered at Aijur Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the investigation is continuing and further details are expected to emerge as the probe progresses.
Authorities are also likely to examine the source of the raw materials and chemicals seized during the raid, along with the financial and communication links of the arrested individuals, to establish the broader network, if any, behind the alleged counterfeit currency operation.
