Bengaluru Man Held for Stabbing Retired Navy Captain Father, Dentist Mother

Investigations into the double murder in Bengaluru’s Vignana Nagar have revealed that financial disagreements may have played a key role in the fatal incident. Rohan Chandra Bhat (33) , who was arrested for allegedly stabbing his parents to death, had reportedly returned from the United States about three years ago after working as a software engineer. Since then, he is said to have been pursuing independent technology projects and attempting to establish a startup venture , but was facing difficulties in securing funds . Police sources indicate that he had repeatedly sought financial assistance from his parents to support his business plans.

According to investigators, the accused’s parents Naveen Chandra Bhat (60), a retired Navy Captain , and Dr Shyamala Bhat (55), a dentist were allegedly unwilling or unable to provide the money he demanded. This reportedly led to frequent quarrels within the family over finances and future plans. Due to ongoing tensions, Rohan had reportedly been living separately for a period before returning to his parents’ residence shortly before the incident. Police are examining whether a heated argument over funding was the immediate trigger.

While there has been speculation about the accused’s mental and emotional condition, police have not officially confirmed any diagnosed illness. However, officers have indicated that he may have been under considerable stress and anxiety related to career setbacks and financial pressures. Authorities are expected to examine his mental state as part of the ongoing investigation, but no formal medical assessment has been made public so far.

The incident reportedly took place inside the family’s villa under the HAL Police Station limits . Following an argument, Rohan allegedly attacked his parents with a knife. Neighbours alerted by the disturbance rushed to help and the injured couple was taken to Manipal Hospital , where they were declared dead. A murder case has been registered based on a complaint filed by a resident of the apartment complex.

The accused was taken into custody and has been produced before the jurisdictional court . Police said further interrogation is underway, along with forensic examination of the crime scene and collection of witness statements to establish a clear sequence of events. The bodies have been shifted to Bowring Hospital mortuary , and the post-mortem examination will be conducted after the couple’s daughter arrives from the United States. Investigators maintain that the exact motive is yet to be conclusively established and that the probe is continuing.
