Bengaluru International Film Festival 2026: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reviews preparations

The city of gardens and screens is gearing up for its most exciting cinematic fiesta yet as the 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes) prepares to roll out the red carpet from January 29 to February 6, 2026 , showcasing the finest global and Indian cinema. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, speaking at a meeting with the organising committee, said, “This year’s festival is dedicated to women’s empowerment, and we want to celebrate films that tell powerful stories of resilience, courage, and change.”

The CM was joined by Film Academy President Sadhu Kokila and Information Department Commissioner Hemant Nimbalkar , along with other dignitaries, to discuss arrangements for the festival. Siddaramaiah added, “We are committed to providing a platform for the best films from India and abroad, including those that have won awards at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, and Busan. Cinema lovers in Bengaluru will get to experience the world of international cinema in one place.”

Senior actor, director, and producer Prakash Raj , appointed as the festival’s brand ambassador, expressed his excitement, saying, “It is an honour to represent BIFFes. Cinema is a language that transcends borders, and this festival is a celebration of creativity, culture, and collaboration. I look forward to meeting filmmakers, sharing experiences, and inspiring audiences with the magic of films.” The festival will be inaugurated on the grand steps of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly , promising a spectacular start to the eight-day event.

With more than 110 films already submitted in the Asian, Indian, and Kannada cinema competitive categories, the CM reminded filmmakers, “The last date for submissions is December 31, 2025. We encourage storytellers from across India and Asia to participate and showcase their talent to a global audience.”

Screenings will take place across iconic venues including Lulu Mall in Rajajinagar, Dr. Rajkumar Bhavan, Artists’ Association in Chamarajpet, and Suchitra Film Society cinemas in Banashankari . Siddaramaiah noted, “Over 400 screenings of 200 films from more than 60 countries will take place. This is an opportunity for audiences to experience a diverse range of films, from award-winning international features to the finest of Indian and Kannada cinema.”

The festival will also feature academic programs , masterclasses, and panel discussions. Siddaramaiah said, “We are creating a dedicated stage for delegates and enthusiasts to interact with filmmakers, critics, and cinematographers. It is not just a festival, but a learning experience.” A photo exhibition celebrating 91 years of Kannada cinema will run alongside, highlighting the rich history and cultural legacy of the region’s film industry.

On the closing day, awards will be presented for the best films, along with lifetime achievement awards . Siddaramaiah added, “The government has provided a grant of Rs 7 crore to ensure that BIFFes continues to be a marquee event, putting Bengaluru on the global map of cinema festivals.”

Prakash Raj summed up the festival’s spirit, saying, “BIFFes is a festival that bridges cultures, celebrates creativity, and inspires audiences. It is not just about watching films; it’s about experiencing stories that leave a mark on your heart.”

The 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of cinema, dialogue, and artistic expression, making Bengaluru the centre of global storytelling as 2026 begins.
