Police have filed an FIR against two individuals over allegations that they tampered with the CCTV surveillance system at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB vs GT IPL match held on April 24, officials said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Manjunath (37) and Abdul Kalam (19) , allegedly entered the stadium without valid authorization by misusing a deactivated access card. They are said to have interfered with the security setup by disabling and damaging CCTV infrastructure , which is part of the stadium’s live monitoring system.

According to police, the act of tampering involved multiple disruptions, including switching off or disabling cameras , interfering with fibre optic cables , and damaging Network Video Recorder (NVR) systems , which store and process surveillance footage. The accused also allegedly entered a restricted CCTV control area and altered or disrupted components that manage camera feeds.

As a result, over 240 CCTV cameras went offline around 11.30 am on match day, temporarily affecting surveillance coverage in key security zones such as entry gates and perimeter areas.

The complaint was filed by Aditya Bhat of Staqu Technologies Pvt Ltd , the agency providing AI-based surveillance support during match days. Police said the duo later moved to a junction box near the parking area, where they allegedly damaged fibre connections, further disrupting live monitoring.

A senior police officer said the issue was detected quickly and restored within about an hour , ensuring that match security was not ultimately compromised. He added that preliminary investigation suggests a possible personal grudge linked to pending payments as a motive.

“All CCTV systems were restored promptly and there was no impact on the match proceedings,” the officer said. Further investigation is underway and appropriate legal action will follow, police added.
