Suvendu Adhikari on Monday met senior officers of the Kolkata Police South East Division to review the law and order situation following violence at Park Circus a day earlier.

During the meeting, Adhikari is learnt to have reviewed the sequence of events that led to clashes at the Park Circus seven-point crossing , one of the city’s busiest intersections, where tension erupted on Sunday. Officials briefed him on the circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent police response deployed to restore order in the area.

The violence broke out during a protest against an alleged anti-encroachment drive in the Tiljala locality. Police said the demonstration escalated when protesters allegedly hurled stones and bricks at security personnel, leaving several police officers injured in the clashes. Authorities further stated that multiple individuals were taken into custody and detained in connection with the incident as part of ongoing investigations.

Senior police officers informed that reinforcement teams were rushed to the spot soon after the unrest began, and the situation was brought under control after sustained efforts. A large police deployment continued in and around Park Circus on Monday to prevent any further flare-up and to maintain public order.

Officials added that monitoring remains active in sensitive pockets of the area, while assessments are being carried out to ensure that no further disturbances occur. The review meeting is part of the broader effort to evaluate security preparedness and coordination among field units following the episode of violence.
