A spirited display from Iran saw them hold Belgium to a 0-0 draw in a tense FIFA World Cup Group stage clash, despite the European side playing more than half the match with ten men at SoFi Stadium.

Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand produced a stunning performance, pulling off seven crucial saves to frustrate a star studded Belgium attack and ensure Team Melli walked away with a valuable point.

The turning point came in the 66th minute when Belgium defender Nathan Ngoy was shown a straight red card. He misjudged a back pass and then brought down Mehdi Taremi , who was racing through on goal, denying a clear scoring opportunity and leaving Belgium a man down.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Belgium continued to create the better chances in the closing stages, with Iran struggling to break through a disciplined defensive structure. Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also played a key role, matching Beiranvand save for save to keep his side in the contest.

Belgium came close to breaking the deadlock through Maxim De Cuyper , who was denied twice in the second half, including a late opportunity in the 86th minute that Beiranvand expertly stopped.

Iran, however, will feel they missed a golden opportunity of their own. A well worked set piece finished by Mehdi Taremi was ruled offside after a video review, while several early chances tested Courtois in a lively start from the Asian side.

Belgium, ranked 10th in the world, also struggled to find rhythm in attack and have now failed to score from open play in two matches, with their only goal in the tournament so far coming via an own goal in their opening fixture against Egypt.

The absence of winger Jeremy Doku , who missed the match due to illness, was also felt as Belgium lacked sharpness in the final third.

In a match defined by missed chances, goalkeeping brilliance, and wasted opportunities, both sides were left with another draw, and plenty to reflect on as the group stage intensifies.
