Beed Man Attempts to Set His Two Minor Daughters Ablaze Over Domestic Dispute
A shocking incident has emerged from Lahamewadi village in Majalgaon tehsil of Beed district , where a man allegedly attempted to kill his two minor daughters by setting them on fire during a domestic dispute, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Mahesh Vishnu Somase , allegedly reached his wife Ashwini’s maternal home on May 2 carrying his daughters aged 4 and 5 years . According to police, Ashwini had been staying there after a strained marital relationship and ongoing domestic dispute .
Officials said Somase demanded that his wife return to the marital home immediately, but she refused and instead suggested resolving the issue through community elders’ mediation .
Enraged by her refusal, Somase allegedly issued threats to kill her and other family members. He then reportedly took out a diesel container from his motorcycle bag , poured the fuel on both his minor daughters, and attempted to ignite it using a matchbox he was carrying.
The situation escalated into panic at the residence, but a relative intervened at the critical moment and snatched the matchbox from his hand , preventing what police described as a potential fatal tragedy.
Additional reports confirm that the accused allegedly continued issuing life threats even while leaving the scene , warning the family of further harm. The prompt intervention of relatives is credited with averting the incident from turning into a mass fatality case.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter under serious charges, including attempt to murder (IPC Section 307) . Officials said further legal action will depend on the ongoing investigation and statements from witnesses.
Authorities also noted that the case is being treated as a severe instance of domestic violence involving minors , and protective measures for the children are being reviewed.
