'Baththa' First Look: Vijay Sethupathi and Balaji Tharaneetharan Set October 1 Release

Vijay Sethupathi and director Balaji Tharaneetharan are coming together for their third collaboration with 'Baththa', which has been officially announced for a worldwide theatrical release on October 1, 2026. The makers unveiled the film's title and first-look poster on Wednesday, August 12, with filmmaker Atlee presenting the project.

The first look has already drawn attention for its striking retro appearance. Sethupathi is seen sporting a red designer shirt, sunglasses, a thick gold chain and a cigarette, creating a stylish vintage image. The poster has also led to speculation that the film could have a period or retro setting, although the makers have not yet revealed the complete plot.

Atlee shared the first look with a playful reference to the duo's 2012 cult favourite 'Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom', hinting that their third collaboration would be another major entertainer. 'Baththa' marks the reunion of Sethupathi and Tharaneetharan after their earlier films 'Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom' and 'Seethakaathi', raising expectations around their latest project.

The film also features Lijomol Jose in an important role, while Tharaneetharan has written and directed the project. The technical team includes Sai Abhyankkar as composer, Selva Kumar SK as cinematographer, R Kalaivanan as editor and T Muthuraj as production designer.

On the production front, Star Studio18 is presenting the film, while Cine1 Studios and A for Apple Studios are jointly producing it. Atlee is associated with the project as presenter, adding further interest to the film's theatrical prospects. Reports also indicate that Netflix has secured its digital rights.

With the story and character details still being kept under wraps, 'Baththa' is expected to reveal more about its world and premise ahead of its October 1 release.
