Barcelona’s Winning Run Shattered! PSG Strike Four Times as Liverpool Pull Off Incredible Comeback
Paris Saint-Germain ended Barcelona’s 11-match winning streak with a thrilling 4-2 victory, while Liverpool produced a stunning comeback to beat Villarreal 4-3 in a dramatic night of Champions League action.
The defending champions delivered a powerful statement by overcoming Barcelona’s attacking threat to secure their third consecutive victory and move to the top of the Champions League table. PSG also equalled a club record by extending their unbeaten run in the competition to 13 matches.
Barcelona briefly appeared to have regained control when teenage sensation Lamine Yamal produced a moment of brilliance to make it 2-2, scoring from a tight angle. But PSG responded immediately, with Vitinha restoring the lead before Fabian Ruiz sealed the 4-2 victory. Désiré Doué and Lucas Hernandez also scored for PSG, while Xavi Espart netted Barcelona’s other goal.
“We always know there’s an opportunity as long as the final whistle hasn’t gone,” Doué said, reflecting PSG’s determination to keep fighting until the end.
However, injuries to Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia threatened to overshadow the win, raising concerns about PSG’s attacking options. Barcelona must recover quickly before facing arch-rivals Real Madrid in Sunday’s Clasico.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick admitted his team made too many mistakes in possession and lost the ball too easily, acknowledging that the defeat exposed areas requiring improvement.
Liverpool also produced a remarkable turnaround after falling 2-0 behind against Villarreal. Eighteen-year-old Rio Ngumoha played a decisive role, setting up goals for Ronald Araujo, Alexis Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz as Liverpool fought back to win 4-3. The victory made Liverpool one of only two teams, alongside PSG, to have won all three of their matches.
Manchester City bounced back from their defeat to PSG with a commanding 5-1 victory over AEK Athens. Phil Foden scored a hat-trick, while leading striker Erling Haaland remained on the bench.
Elsewhere, Scott McTominay scored twice as Napoli edged Bodø/Glimt 4-3. Roma thrashed Slovan Bratislava 4-0, Borussia Dortmund beat Sabah 2-1, and Atletico Madrid held Stuttgart to a 1-1 draw despite playing with 10 men. Slavia Prague recovered from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Fenerbahce, while PSV defeated Porto 1-0, handing the Portuguese side its third defeat.
