Barcelona Agree €76.5 Million Deal For Rodri In Blockbuster Move From Man City
Barcelona are set to bring Rodri back to Spain after reaching an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of the World Cup-winning midfielder, according to a person with knowledge of the transaction.
The deal is reportedly worth €76.5 million (USD 88.5 million), with the source speaking anonymously because the clubs have not yet publicly confirmed the agreement.
The proposed move would mark a major addition for Barcelona, with Rodri bringing a wealth of experience and an impressive collection of honours to the Catalan giants. The 30-year-old has been a central figure at Manchester City since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
Rodri played a decisive role in City's rise to European dominance, scoring the winning goal in the 2023 Champions League final against Inter Milan. A year later, he was crowned the Ballon d'Or winner after helping Spain claim the European Championship.
His stock rose even further at the World Cup last month, where Rodri captained Spain to the title and won the tournament's Golden Ball as its best player.
The transfer would represent a significant blow to City's midfield. Bernardo Silva has already departed the club this summer to join Real Madrid, leaving Pep Guardiola facing the prospect of losing another influential midfielder.
Rodri had one year remaining on his City contract. He was absent from Sunday's 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal as he continues his recovery from minor back surgery undergone after the World Cup.
Neither Manchester City nor Barcelona has officially commented on the reported agreement, but Rodri's potential return to Spain would be one of the summer's biggest transfers and a major statement of Barcelona's ambitions.
